How does a woman build and sustain an artistic practice as life continues to change?
Making, in Her Own Rhythm brings together three choreographers from different generations, contexts, and artistic trajectories to reflect on how a practice grows alongside a life. Bodies change, experiences accumulate, responsibilities and relationships shift, while work, economic realities, family, care, mobility, time, and energy continually shape how an artist makes and sustains a practice. For women artists, these negotiations may also be shaped by gendered expectations and conditions.
Here, rhythm offers a way of thinking about sustainability beyond uninterrupted productivity: there are times to make, pause, return, change intensity, or discover different ways of working. Through their distinct experiences, the conversation asks what becomes visible when we attend to these different rhythms—and how artistic practices, bodies, and lives continue to shape one another over time.
