Hartati

Hartati was born in Jakarta and spent her childhood in Muaralabuh, South Solok, West Sumatra. She completed her dance studies at the Jakarta Institute of the Arts (IKJ) and spent 20 years performing with Gumarang Sakti Dance Company under the direction of the late Gusmiati Suid.

Since 2001, she has created contemporary works, including Membaca Meja, Cinta Kita, IN/OUT, Tumbuh Tanpa Bumi, and Jarum dalam Jerami.

Hartati was a recipient of the Empowering Women Artists grant from Kelola Foundation (2007–09). She served as a member of the Dance Committee of the Jakarta Arts Council (DKJ, 2013–15) and later as its Chair (2015–18). In 2020, she founded Yayasan Seni Tari Indonesia (Indonesian Dance Art Foundation) to contribute to building dance ecosystems across various regions of Indonesia.
