a place we could not name is a collaborative project that began from a shared interest in tracing place, not only as an idea but as something experienced through the senses.

This iteration emerges from the intimate memories of each individual and the experiences that shape their relationship with a place, as something that was once intimately held, disappeared, remembered, or forgotten. These memories bring forth moments of crisis, when one’s relationship with place becomes loosened, divided, and fractured.

The work attempts to embody these experiences as an atmosphere shared with the public. The audience is brought into a condition of an aftermath, when the boundaries of place have collapsed and place can no longer be contained within space and time. The work is interested in the body as a vessel that holds and tends to place—as memory, feeling, and the experiences that remain.

Beginning at *SCAPE Experimentation Ground (2024), the work continues to evolve through residencies with Dance Nucleus (ARTEFACT), Asia Pacific Performance Lab, and the Esplanade Contemporary Performing Arts Research Residency (2026), an ongoing cross-regional inquiry spanning Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, and other territories to come.

The work is presented by Latitude, a joint initiative between the Indonesian Dance Festival, Performance Space (Australia), and Dance Nucleus (Singapore).

This work was made possible, in part, through the support of Latitude, a residency and exchange program developed by the Indonesian Dance Festival, Dance Nucleus (Singapore), Performance Space (Australia).
