The traditional Tidung people in North Kalimantan believe in a traditional healing ritual known as besitan. This ritual is performed to cure the condition called selinat, which refers to a state in which a person loses control over himself. The advancement of science, the fast information flow, and the development of medical infrastructure have impacted the perspective and lifestyle of most people in North Kalimantan. However, the besitan ritual still has a place among some Tidung people.
