This workshop touches on the Indigenous Peoples' Basic Punk Law II with Fangas Nayaw. Central to the work of Amis choreographer Fangas Nayaw is the dilemma of how to adjust to the reality of contemporary social life, and in the face of globalization, while preserving tradition.
La XXX Punk is a series through which Fangas Nayaw searches for how Indigenous dance can be in the future. It will be different, and must be different, because we are fed up with how popular imagination of Indigenous dance is limited to certain selected highlights and images.
Born in Taitung, Taiwan. Fangas is an artist, director, choreographer, and performer. His versatile practices probe into the dynamics of audience participation and the possibilities of new technology in the performing arts, while constantly reflecting on his indigenous identity and cultural tradition as Amis.
