Created by Arco Renz, Spiral Gong is a movement practice that energizes and connects mind and body, allowing them to resonate and to move as one. Through specific breathing patterns, participants will become more aware of their bodies in motion and explore the merging of opposing poles such as in-out, open-close, gather- disperse. Such operations are at the core of “Abstract Dramaturgy”, a continuously evolving set of structural and choreographic processes in which dance becomes a live interaction between the dancer and the environment, blurring the line between inside and outside, self and other. Movements dissolve oppositions. Meaning, narrative and dramaturgy are rendered as by-products of a process relating in movement. “Spiral” refers to energy patterns of breathing and movement in the body, experienced as a pulse. While “Gong” symbolizes both work/effort (工) and the resonance of a gong instrument.
