Why does it matter to talk about “rasa”? The word “rasa” is often associated with the sensory experience, the emotional aspect that is the opposite of the logical. This association often makes “rasa” only seen on the surface, even causes misconception.
Through reflection and research, IDF 2022 curatorial team reinterprets “rasa”, while exploring its conceptual footprints from different cultural experiences. This effort is intended to offer alternative perspectives on “rasa.” This dialogue opens up opportunities for the audience to peek into IDF’s curatorial behind-the-scenes alongside four speakers involved in the formulation of RASA: Beyond Bodies, the festival theme for 2022.
Indian director Sankar Venkateswaran will reflect on “rasa” in his home culture. Heru Joni Putra (writer, curator, dramaturg) will explore “rasa” in the context of Minang culture. Ayu Utami (activist, journalist, author) will share her insights on “rasa” based on written and unwritten texts originating from the archipelago, and how “rasa” enables us to form a critical spiritual attitude. Representing the host, Ratri Anindyajati (Festival Director), will share about her process in interpreting ideas around “RASA: Beyond Bodies” in the series of festival programs.”
