SUMMARY:Squatting\, Power from Below
DESCRIPTION:Dance artist Kim-Sanh Châu leads a workshop centered on the squat\, bringing together Asian and North American references. Explored as both a physical practice and a cultural image\, the squat becomes a site of resilience\, grounding\, and empowerment. \nOften overlooked\, it is a complex bodily state: a continuous negotiation between stability and mobility\, rest and effort\, and an active relationship to gravity. Inspired by Châu’s recent works BLEU NÉON and SQUAT\, participants will explore movement sequences developed from a sustained squat position. Together\, we will approach the squat as a body archive and an act of resistance\, asking: How can we dance from the ground up? How can we generate power without relying on verticality? \nVenue: Studio Tari\, Komunitas Salihara Arts Center \nBook Your SeatKim-Sanh ChâuKim-Sanh Châu is a dance and video artist. She is also a filmmaker with a particular interest in cinematography and the moving body. She lives in Tiohtià:ke Mooniyang\, Montreal\, and maintains active ties with Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
