SUMMARY:Waktu Paruh
DESCRIPTION:Waktu Paruh serves as a metaphor for the gradual disintegration of social order\, ethics\, and human values. The work poses the question: when the values that sustain life are steadily eroded\, what remains? How does one move forward when the very footing that once supported life is no longer intact? \nThis decay begins in the most intimate of spaces: the family. Bodies that once supported one another slowly lose their warmth. Relationships devolve into repetition\, and the ground beneath one’s feet can vanish without warning. Half of the memory lingers\, treading softly across the floorboards of Rumah Gadang (traditional Minang house); the other half moves toward a social reality that offers vastness yet harbors a desire to dominate and seize space. Individual freedom clashes with collective rules\, giving rise to friction\, negotiation\, and a struggle to keep moving. \nUltimately\, the space for movement narrows to a precarious path. Every step demands vigilance as the footing grows increasingly fragile. Teetering on the brink of a fall\, the body constantly seeks balance—and a chance to endure. \nVenue: Graha Bhakti Budaya\, Taman Ismail Marzuki \nCredits:Choreographer : HartatiDramaturg : Adinda LuthviantiResearcher : Heru Joni PutraScenographer : HanafiPerformer : Davit Fitrik\, M Fazri Arif Sahputra\, Dendi Wardiman\, Xena Israely Loppies\, Try Anggara\, Savika Refa Zahira\, Farhan Krisna RamadhanMusic : Taufik AdamLighting designer : Azis DynkLighting programmer : MamedzMaster electrician : Satria PutraProduction Manager : Tiara SasmitaStage Manager : Novan Seri\, Richard Van HamdanProducer : Keni SoeriaatmadjaProducer Assistant : Zulfikar \n Supported by: \nBook Your SeatHartatiHartati was born in Jakarta and spent her childhood in Muaralabuh\, South Solok\, West Sumatra. SUMMARY:Squatting\, Power from Below
DESCRIPTION:Dance artist Kim-Sanh Châu leads a workshop centered on the squat\, bringing together Asian and North American references. Explored as both a physical practice and a cultural image\, the squat becomes a site of resilience\, grounding\, and empowerment. \nOften overlooked\, it is a complex bodily state: a continuous negotiation between stability and mobility\, rest and effort\, and an active relationship to gravity. Inspired by Châu’s recent works BLEU NÉON and SQUAT\, participants will explore movement sequences developed from a sustained squat position. Together\, we will approach the squat as a body archive and an act of resistance\, asking: How can we dance from the ground up? How can we generate power without relying on verticality? \nVenue: Studio Tari\, Komunitas Salihara Arts Center \nBook Your SeatKim-Sanh ChâuKim-Sanh Châu is a dance and video artist. She is also a filmmaker with a particular interest in cinematography and the moving body. She lives in Tiohtià:ke Mooniyang\, Montreal\, and maintains active ties with Vietnam and Southeast Asia. SUMMARY:Don't Stop
DESCRIPTION:This workshop explores how movement can emerge from the shifting weight of the body. Rather than searching for a movement form in advance\, participants will follow how the body responds as weight moves from one point of support to another\, paying attention to balance\, direction\, energy\, and the impulse to move. \nThrough guided exercises\, participants will explore how each movement can become the starting point for the next. Shifts in weight and support open new directions and transform the body’s relationship with space and time. \nThe workshop invites participants to experience movement as a continuous process—where each gesture grows from what came before\, and the body’s response becomes the source of what comes next. \nVenue: Ruang Serba Guna\, Komunitas Salihara Arts Center \nBook Your SeatHari GhulurMoh. SUMMARY:Dancing Body as a Living Archive: Encounter\, Memory and Transmission
DESCRIPTION:Speakers:\nSina Saberi\nMang Tri Ray Dewantara\nJosh Marcy \nModerator:\nGwen Hsin-Yi Chang \nVenue:\nSerambi Salihara\, Komunitas Salihara Arts Center \nThis session approaches the dancing body as a living archive—a site where relationships among bodies\, movement practices\, and memories hold and transmit knowledge beyond conventional forms of documentation. Part of an ongoing collaboration between Tanztriennale\, Indonesian Dance Festival\, and Goethe-Institut\, the discussion develops a shared line of inquiry emerging from Dancing with Archive and the concept of the embodied archive. \nSina Saberi and Mang Tri Ray Dewantara completed the first phase of the project at Tanztriennale in Hamburg in June 2026\, where they began working with each other’s practices. In Jakarta\, they extend this process\, moving more deeply into one another’s working methods while allowing the local context to shape where the encounter might lead. \nThe discussion asks what kinds of knowledge are held in the body\, how such knowledge moves across generations\, and how memories and practices that remain outside written or institutional records might continue through dance. It also turns towards institutional archives to examine how dance histories are selected\, documented\, and transmitted. \nWhat happens when embodied knowledge enters the archive? How do cultural and historical conditions shape what is remembered\, what remains absent\, and whose histories become part of the record? What new understandings might emerge when different practices of remembering are brought into dialogue?

SUMMARY:a place we could not name
DESCRIPTION:a place we could not name is a collaborative project that began from a shared interest in tracing place\, not only as an idea but as something experienced through the senses. \nThis iteration emerges from the intimate memories of each individual and the experiences that shape their relationship with a place\, as something that was once intimately held\, disappeared\, remembered\, or forgotten. These memories bring forth moments of crisis\, when one’s relationship with place becomes loosened\, divided\, and fractured. \nThe work attempts to embody these experiences as an atmosphere shared with the public. The audience is brought into a condition of an aftermath\, when the boundaries of place have collapsed and place can no longer be contained within space and time. The work is interested in the body as a vessel that holds and tends to place—as memory\, feeling\, and the experiences that remain. \nBeginning at *SCAPE Experimentation Ground (2024)\, the work continues to evolve through residencies with Dance Nucleus (ARTEFACT)\, Asia Pacific Performance Lab\, and the Esplanade Contemporary Performing Arts Research Residency (2026)\, an ongoing cross-regional inquiry spanning Singapore\, Indonesia\, Australia\, and other territories to come. \nThe work is presented by Latitude\, a joint initiative between the Indonesian Dance Festival\, Performance Space (Australia)\, and Dance Nucleus (Singapore). \nThis work was made possible\, in part\, through the support of Latitude\, a residency and exchange program developed by the Indonesian Dance Festival\, Dance Nucleus (Singapore)\, Performance Space (Australia). \nCredit:Choreographer : Razan Wirjosandjojo\, XUEScenographer : Razan Wirjosandjojo\, Mervin Wong\, XUEMusic : Mervin WongMentorship : Melati Suryodarmo \nVenue: Blackbox\, Komunitas Salihara Arts Center \nBook Your SeatRazan WirjosandjojoBased in Solo\, Indonesia\, Razan Wirjosandjojo works across dance\, performance art\, and film. SUMMARY:KALENG ROMBENG!
DESCRIPTION:Fragile\, dented\, yet always noisy—KALENG ROMBENG! celebrates vulnerability\, memory\, and lived experience from a marginalized perspective. The work stems from Adrian’s personal recollections of fear\, stereotypes\, and experiences that leave invisible marks. Much like a battered tin can\, the body retains traces that never fully vanish; they evolve and resurface when confronted with the realities of the present. \nWith the use of “Waacking+” as an approach\, Adrian fuses and shifts the fundamental elements of Waacking—gestures\, dynamics\, poses\, and rhythms—with keywords drawn from personal memory to navigate a spectrum of emotions often avoided. Fear is a recurring theme. The work engages in a dialogue with it\, exploring the boundaries between one’s personal safe space and the often-skewed demands of an ideal work-life balance. \nThrough movement\, sound\, satirical humor\, and narrative play\, the body tests limits while simultaneously reclaiming space. Rather than putting aside vulnerability\, KALENG ROMBENG! seeks a way to coexist with it—embracing the fragile parts of the self while remaining vocal\, and “fighting with joy.” \nThis work was made possible\, in part\, through the support of the Indonesian Dance Festival and in collaboration with the Jakarta International Contemporary Dance Festival 2026\, a program of the Jakarta Arts Institute. \nCredit:Music : Rifo Octavian Suryadharma\, Alfonsus KevinStage Manager : FKSP – IKJ \nVenue: Blackbox\, Komunitas Salihara Arts Center \nBook Your SeatAdrianusAdrian is a Jakarta-based choreographer and dancer who draws upon Waacking and Voguing to develop his choreographic language within contemporary practice. Rooted in movement\, emotion and presence\, we will explore how energy is offered\, shared and received through the body. \nIn Krump\, the dancer never moves alone. The energy of the room—the reactions\, sounds\, and hype of those around them—can feed the dancer\, who responds through movement\, emotion\, and expression. This creates a constant dialogue — a form of communication without words. Artistic growth requires time\, space\, funding\, knowledge\, critical exchange\, trust\, and room to experiment\, fail\, reflect\, and change direction. It also relies on a wider ecology of producers\, curators\, dramaturgs\, facilitators\, peers\, and organisations whose work surrounds artistic processes. \nAs these infrastructures emerge from different cultural\, political\, economic\, and institutional contexts\, the session also asks what becomes possible when development platforms begin to connect: what can be productively shared\, what needs to remain rooted in particular contexts\, and how relationships across platforms might support different ways and rhythms of growing.

SUMMARY:Reality
DESCRIPTION:Reality revisits a work originally created by Soy Chanborey nearly a decade ago\, drawing upon the personal experiences and daily lives of both himself and his father. In this new version\, Chanborey retraces their intertwined stories\, bringing years of accumulated memories and observations into a fresh creative process. \nHis father’s life was shaped by the post-Khmer Rouge era in Cambodia\, military service\, and an incident that resulted in the loss of a leg. These experiences form a complex personal history that Chanborey interprets from the perspective of a son. Their relationship is also framed by cultural beliefs and the ways they make sense of the life events that define their shared experiences. \nThrough the use of movement\, video\, photography\, music\, and sound\, Chanborey explores everyday gestures and activities\, connecting various moments in the lives of father and son. This process allows him to experiment with how physical movement\, visual imagery\, and sound can carry personal history across different timeframes and perspectives. \nBy revisiting Reality from a contemporary standpoint\, Chanborey views the work as an ongoing exploration—revisiting familiar material while opening up space for new artistic possibilities and a deeper narrative regarding the father-son relationship. \nThis work was made possible\, in part\, through the support of the Indonesian Dance Festival and in collaboration with Cambodian Living Arts (CLA). \nCredit:Choreographer: Chanborey SoyPerformer : Chanborey SoyAssistant : Chanlyka Leav (Kakou)Musician : Ros SokuntheaActor : Sun Polin\, Long Pisey & Chan SamnangVideo : Nitossaa Studio \nVenue: Ruang C\, Institut Kesenian Jakarta \nBook Your SeatSoy ChanboreySoy Chanborey is a Cambodian dancer\, choreographer\, and artistic director whose practice bridges contemporary dance and Cambodian traditional mask dance. SUMMARY:TETUHA HALIMAWONG
DESCRIPTION:What if a tiger trespassing into a human settlement is not merely an animal that has lost its habitat\, but an ancestor arriving to engage us in conversation? \nTetuha Halimawong grows from a myth inherited by Ahmad Susantri in Lampung about ancestral spirits taking the form of tigers\, believed to watch over the forest. Their presence connects humans with animals\, ancestors\, sacred territories\, and the forest\, while also shaping an ethic of living in relationship with the environment. \nToday\, that relationship is shifting. Deforestation\, the expansion of illegal coffee plantations\, and settlements are reducing the habitat of the Sumatran tiger in West Lampung. As local knowledge and beliefs gradually erode\, encounters between humans and tigers increasingly turn into conflict. \nSusan summons the ancestor back into the body and the contemporary imagination. Yet Tetuha appears not as a majestic\, frozen mythological figure\, but as a pink\, playful\, adorable\, humorous\, and talkative tiger. \nThrough movement\, conversation\, humor\, and a “PARTYsipatory” approach—a play on words combining “party” and “participation”—Susan facilitates a fluid encounter between the performer\, the audience\, and the world of Tetuha. As a contemporary mystical fable\, Tetuha Halimawong sets the myth in motion once more\, inviting us to reimagine the relationship between humans\, the forest\, and other forms of life\, as well as the possibility of renewed coexistence. \nThe development of Tetuha Halimawong’s work and producing practice was made possible through a collaboration between Reka Kelola: Creative Producing Lab 2026 and Indonesian Dance Festival: KAMPANA 2026. \nCredit:Choreographer : Ahmad SusantriPerformers : Ahmad Susantri\, Silvia Dewi MarthaningrumComposer : Edithya Rio WirawanLighting Designer : Sulhan JamilProducer : Nabilla Kurnia Adzan \nVenue: Ruang C\, Institut Kesenian Jakarta \nBook Your SeatAhmad SusantriAhmad Susantri (Susan) is a choreographer\, dancer\, and dance educator based in Liwa\, West Lampung. SUMMARY:MENSTRUATION SUMO DANCE
DESCRIPTION:How have menstruating bodies historically been spoken about and marginalised? Can we entrust pain and the sense of the absurd to something? \nMenstruation has been given meaning at the intersection of social customs and scientific discourse. In this work\, while still emphasizing the importance of scientific knowledge and understanding\, team chiipro – a performance unit that consists of Nanako Matsumoto and Kengo Nishimoto –  performs a ritual dance around the absurdity of menstruation\, something  that cannot be fully grasped through scientific discourse and understanding alone. \nWhat emerges is the Shiko* dance which involves opening and raising the legs before stomping on the ground. The performance takes inspiration from the motion of Shiko to wittily transgress a social boundary. \nThe two artists‛ engagements in text and dance collide and respond to each other in calculated harmony. Four years after its premiere at Kyoto Experiment 2022\, this work opens a new dohyō** in an age of division. \n*Traditionally refers to the ceremonial leg raising ritual done by sumo wrestlers.**Sumo ring \nVenue: Teater Wahyu Sihombing\, Taman Ismail Marzuki \nCredits:Choreography and Direction: Nanako Matsumoto & Kengo Nishimoto / team chiiproPerformer : Nanako MatsumotoMusic : Hayato Ichimura\, Mina HayashiLighting Design : Kana WatanabeCostume Design : Kazuto Suzuki (islands)Choreographic Collaborators and Performers: Yuka Uchida\, Kohei MaedaVideo Design : Daichi AbeProduction Coordinator: Yoshimi ToyoyamaStage Manager : Marie MoriyamaTechnical Adviser : Yukiko Yoshimoto (Mahiru)English subtitles : Kyoka Kawai Arisawa\, Juliet Reiko Knapp \nProduced by team chiipro Co-produced by Kyoto ExperimentSupported by The Saison FoundationPresenting partner: Kyoto Experiment with the support of Japan Creator Support Fun \nBook Your SeatTeam ChiiproTeam Chiipro is a performance duo made up of Nanako Matsumoto and Kengo Nishimoto.
