SUMMARY:Reality
DESCRIPTION:Reality revisits a work originally created by Soy Chanborey nearly a decade ago\, drawing upon the personal experiences and daily lives of both himself and his father. In this new version\, Chanborey retraces their intertwined stories\, bringing years of accumulated memories and observations into a fresh creative process. \nHis father’s life was shaped by the post-Khmer Rouge era in Cambodia\, military service\, and an incident that resulted in the loss of a leg. These experiences form a complex personal history that Chanborey interprets from the perspective of a son. Their relationship is also framed by cultural beliefs and the ways they make sense of the life events that define their shared experiences. \nThrough the use of movement\, video\, photography\, music\, and sound\, Chanborey explores everyday gestures and activities\, connecting various moments in the lives of father and son. This process allows him to experiment with how physical movement\, visual imagery\, and sound can carry personal history across different timeframes and perspectives. \nBy revisiting Reality from a contemporary standpoint\, Chanborey views the work as an ongoing exploration—revisiting familiar material while opening up space for new artistic possibilities and a deeper narrative regarding the father-son relationship. \nThis work was made possible\, in part\, through the support of the Indonesian Dance Festival and in collaboration with Cambodian Living Arts (CLA). \nCredit:Choreographer: Chanborey SoyPerformer : Chanborey SoyAssistant : Chanlyka Leav (Kakou)Musician : Ros SokuntheaActor : Sun Polin\, Long Pisey & Chan SamnangVideo : Nitossaa Studio \nVenue: Ruang C\, Institut Kesenian Jakarta \nBook Your Seat

SUMMARY:TETUHA HALIMAWONG
DESCRIPTION:What if a tiger trespassing into a human settlement is not merely an animal that has lost its habitat\, but an ancestor arriving to engage us in conversation? \nTetuha Halimawong grows from a myth inherited by Ahmad Susantri in Lampung about ancestral spirits taking the form of tigers\, believed to watch over the forest. Their presence connects humans with animals\, ancestors\, sacred territories\, and the forest\, while also shaping an ethic of living in relationship with the environment. \nToday\, that relationship is shifting. Deforestation\, the expansion of illegal coffee plantations\, and settlements are reducing the habitat of the Sumatran tiger in West Lampung. As local knowledge and beliefs gradually erode\, encounters between humans and tigers increasingly turn into conflict. \nSusan summons the ancestor back into the body and the contemporary imagination. Yet Tetuha appears not as a majestic\, frozen mythological figure\, but as a pink\, playful\, adorable\, humorous\, and talkative tiger. \nThrough movement\, conversation\, humor\, and a “PARTYsipatory” approach—a play on words combining “party” and “participation”—Susan facilitates a fluid encounter between the performer\, the audience\, and the world of Tetuha. As a contemporary mystical fable\, Tetuha Halimawong sets the myth in motion once more\, inviting us to reimagine the relationship between humans\, the forest\, and other forms of life\, as well as the possibility of renewed coexistence. \nThe development of Tetuha Halimawong’s work and producing practice was made possible through a collaboration between Reka Kelola: Creative Producing Lab 2026 and Indonesian Dance Festival: KAMPANA 2026. \nCredit:Choreographer : Ahmad SusantriPerformers : Ahmad Susantri\, Silvia Dewi MarthaningrumComposer : Edithya Rio WirawanLighting Designer : Sulhan JamilProducer : Nabilla Kurnia Adzan \nVenue: Ruang C\, Institut Kesenian Jakarta \nBook Your Seat

SUMMARY:MENSTRUATION SUMO DANCE
DESCRIPTION:How have menstruating bodies historically been spoken about and marginalised? Can we entrust pain and the sense of the absurd to something? \nMenstruation has been given meaning at the intersection of social customs and scientific discourse. In this work\, while still emphasizing the importance of scientific knowledge and understanding\, team chiipro – a performance unit that consists of Nanako Matsumoto and Kengo Nishimoto –  performs a ritual dance around the absurdity of menstruation\, something  that cannot be fully grasped through scientific discourse and understanding alone. \nWhat emerges is the Shiko* dance which involves opening and raising the legs before stomping on the ground. The performance takes inspiration from the motion of Shiko to wittily transgress a social boundary. \nThe two artists‛ engagements in text and dance collide and respond to each other in calculated harmony. Four years after its premiere at Kyoto Experiment 2022\, this work opens a new dohyō** in an age of division. \n*Traditionally refers to the ceremonial leg raising ritual done by sumo wrestlers.**Sumo ring \nVenue: Teater Wahyu Sihombing\, Taman Ismail Marzuki \nCredits:Choreography and Direction: Nanako Matsumoto & Kengo Nishimoto / team chiiproPerformer : Nanako MatsumotoMusic : Hayato Ichimura\, Mina HayashiLighting Design : Kana WatanabeCostume Design : Kazuto Suzuki (islands)Choreographic Collaborators and Performers: Yuka Uchida\, Kohei MaedaVideo Design : Daichi AbeProduction Coordinator: Yoshimi ToyoyamaStage Manager : Marie MoriyamaTechnical Adviser : Yukiko Yoshimoto (Mahiru)English subtitles : Kyoka Kawai Arisawa\, Juliet Reiko Knapp \nProduced by team chiipro Co-produced by Kyoto ExperimentSupported by The Saison FoundationPresenting partner: Kyoto Experiment with the support of Japan Creator Support Fun \nBook Your Seat

SUMMARY:An Introduction to Menstruation Sumo Dance
DESCRIPTION:Team Chiipro’s Menstruation Sumo Dance explores the social contexts of menstruation through shiko\, the traditional stomping movement in sumo. \nIn this workshop\, participants will be introduced to basic dance practices inspired by shiko and invited to engage in a central part of the work’s creative process: reading diaries documenting personal experiences of menstruation. Drawing from this practice\, the facilitators will share their exploration of the weight of encountering another person’s experience. Through layering\, shifting\, and unsettling movements and images in the body\, participants will explore how sensuality emerges through subtle shifts\, displacements\, and changes in perception. \nNanako Matsumoto \nCo-director of Team Chiipro\, Choreographer\, Dancer \nKengo Nishimoto\nCo-director of Team Chiipro\, Dramaturg \nVenue: Ruang Latihan Tari Kontemporer\, Taman Ismail Marzuki \nBook Your Seat

SUMMARY:Painscriptions
DESCRIPTION:Painscriptions is a workshop emerging from Sina Saberi’s choreographic research on pain\, informed by medical practices such as EMDR and Somatic Experiencing among others. Through simple somatic instructions and shared movements\, participants are invited into an embodied exploration of pain. Drawing on Saberi’s concept of “writing pain\,” the workshop approaches pain as a lived experience that can be witnessed\, engaged with\, and moved through collectively. \nPeople with or without dance experience are welcome to participate. The workshop welcomes participants of different abilities\, including those living with chronic conditions\, and encourages everyone to engage according to their own capacities and needs. \nParticipation Note:\nThe topic of pain and trauma may be triggering for people with PTSD and other chronic psychosomatic conditions. Please participate at your own discretion. \nVenue: Ruang Latihan Tari Kontemporer\, Taman Ismail Marzuki \nBook Your Seat

SUMMARY:Making\, in Her Own Rhythm: Art\, Work\, Care\, and a Life in Practice
DESCRIPTION:Speakers:\nHartati\nDensiel Lebang\nNanako Matsumoto (Team Chiipro) \nModerator:\n\nKeni Soeriaatmadja \nVenue:Selasar Nashar\, Paviliun Raden Saleh\, Gedung Ali Sadikin\, Taman Ismail Marzuki \nHow does a woman build and sustain an artistic practice as life continues to change? \nMaking\, in Her Own Rhythm brings together three choreographers from different generations\, contexts\, and artistic trajectories to reflect on how a practice grows alongside a life. Bodies change\, experiences accumulate\, responsibilities and relationships shift\, while work\, economic realities\, family\, care\, mobility\, time\, and energy continually shape how an artist makes and sustains a practice. For women artists\, these negotiations may also be shaped by gendered expectations and conditions. \nHere\, rhythm offers a way of thinking about sustainability beyond uninterrupted productivity: there are times to make\, pause\, return\, change intensity\, or discover different ways of working. Through their distinct experiences\, the conversation asks what becomes visible when we attend to these different rhythms—and how artistic practices\, bodies\, and lives continue to shape one another over time.

SUMMARY:NEW FIELDWORK
DESCRIPTION:New Fieldwork is a project that begins with observing pigeons living close to people. Through this project\, we explore the relationship between humans and other living beings in cities. The project is carried out by artists\, including actors\, dancers\, and theater practitioners\, who are not professional field researchers.  \nThis is not academic research. We approach fieldwork as an experimental creative practice. We visit the same places many times and observe individual pigeons. We try to learn about their lives and personalities. Through this process\, we hope to develop a way of seeing other living beings as individual beings\, each with their own lives and characteristics.  \nWe also want to learn about the communities pigeons belong to and the cultures that develop within these communities. This may help us see familiar places from new perspectives\, beyond the human view.  \nOur observations have been shared through exhibitions and Pigeon Observation Tours. We have also created and distributed maps that explore a theater site from the perspective of pigeons. The project is currently exploring its potential as a performing arts work. \nThis work was made possible\, in part\, through the support of the Indonesian Dance Festival and in collaboration with Shifting Points\, a program of Kyoto Experiment\, Bangkok International Performing Arts Meeting and the Japan Foundation. \nCredits:\nChoreographer : Yuka Uchida\nPerformers : Yuka Uchida\, Annastasya Verina\, and Keigo Mikajiri \nVenue: Teater Luwes\, Institut Kesenian Jakarta \nBook Your Seat

SUMMARY:SEA-GHOSTS
DESCRIPTION:Anchored in the erased coastlines of Hong Kong\, Sea-Ghosts fights to remember a time when salt was a gift to Hong Kongers. Blending the materiality of places with choreography\, this performance-exhibition allows sea spirits in their geological\, spiritual and political forms to wake up from centuries of land reclamation and massacres.  \nThe scars of imperial-colonial controls are deep from 2000 years ago. As ideal sites of salt-farming\, the earliest inhabitants were forced labourers who produced salt for China from 119BC\, until a revolution in 1197\, which resulted in bloody massacres. Salt-farming continued on these coastlines – the boundaries of Hong Kong – under continuously violent controls into the 1960s\, as British colonialists dumped mountains onto seas\, up until the current police state.  \nFrom washing rocks\, gathering sea-water\, making paper by adopting the sun practices of salt-farmers\, Sea-Ghosts proposes that forging renewed spiritual connections to land is the urgent decolonial work that will gradually dissolve the violent human dominance to nature\, forced upon by both the British and the Chinese. Between wet and dry\, sea and land\, Sea-Ghosts strives to build a collective Hong Kong identity where migration is resistance and all colonial imaginations are dissolved.  \nThis work was made possible\, in part\, through the support of Latitude\, a residency and exchange program developed by the Indonesian Dance Festival\, Dance Nucleus (Singapore)\, Performance Space (Australia). \nCredits:\nChoreographer : Natalie Quan Yau Tso\nScenographer : Natalie Quan Yau Tso\nPerformers : Natalie Quan Yau Tso\nMusic : Dessert Empress\nCostume Design : Natalie Quan Yau Tso\nDramaturg : Imogen Yang\nProducer : Emma Cao \nCo-Produced by: \nVenue: Teater Luwes\, Institut Kesenian Jakarta \nBook Your Seat

SUMMARY:KONJO: Becoming Otherwise
DESCRIPTION:KONJO: Becoming Otherwise was developed through artistic research of the Konjo people of Bulukumba Regency\, South Sulawesi. Culture is not treated merely as a symbol to be transposed onto the stage\, but rather as a source of inquiry into how human beings shape themselves through their relationships with place\, nature\, community\, memory\, and “the other.” \nThe research stems from two distinct yet interconnected ways of life: the coastal Konjo community—defined by the sea\, seafaring\, and Phinisi boat-building—and the indigenous Kajang community\, whose lives are grounded in customary law and a connection to ancestral land through Pasang ri Kajang (a set of values and customs passed down through generations among the indigenous people of Kajang). The sea serves as a way to contemplate movement\, uncertainty\, journey\, and transformation; while the land embodies attachment\, memory\, and sustainability. \nThe word “Konjo”—understood in the context of this research as “here”—serves as the work’s conceptual point of departure. As the body moves\, “here” can shift to “there.” Between sea and land\, the body becomes a site of “becoming” through its relationships with other bodies\, the environment\, materials\, and memory. \nThe dancer’s body is not a literal representation of the Konjo people but rather an instrument of research. The Phinisi construction process serves as a key dramaturgical device\, translated into movement and inter-bodily relationships: assembling\, binding\, bracing\, balancing\, connecting\, directing\, and releasing. Through this process\, Becoming Otherwise opens up the possibility of shifting from an initial position and allowing encounters to transform the way the body perceives itself. \nVenue: Graha Bhakti Budaya\, Taman Ismail Marzuki \nCredits:Choreographer : Densiel LebangScenographer : Richard Dilian KalipungPerformers : Daniel Setyo Pambudi\, Try Anggara\, Dedi Ronald Maniakori\, Ucup Bakrie\, Clausdios Marani\, Allma Ortega (Kubo)\, Yanuarius Doni Elaman\, Muhammad WibowoMusic : Arham AryadiLighting Designer : Deray SetiadiDramaturg : Helly MinartiProduction Manager : Regina Audrey Ivana ZakariahStage Manager : Novan Trijaya Seri Putra \nCo-Produced by: Performance Space (Australia) & Dance Nucleus (Singapore)  \nBook Your Seat
